While Jewels Bakery & Cafe is a cozy and quaint bakery, on a busy street with traffic coming and going you would not have known it. That is unless you looked out the window at the busy traffic that is going fast by. Sitting in Jewels Cafe and Bakery you are taken back to being in grandma’s house, where their is always something cooking on the stove and treats are always being baked. For all the kids to eat.

The decor in the cafe is very home with odd pieces and non matching chairs in the place. Just like you would find a home that you are accommodating all the family and friends, that you have over for that huge family dinner. To then be filled with the little touches that make a home so special. As I came into the cafe on a early in the morning school day where I just dropped Josiah off at school. I was excited to see the place being pretty busy. Filled with people talking and eating. Having meetings in a setting that was so comfortable that you feel like your in a peaceful inn.
The owner Julie Moreno is a mother of six wonderful children and is such a sweet girl that never settles for okay standards of society. Moreno wants the food to be delicious and taste even greater than if it had gluten in the food. Moreno was never classically trained chef, yet she embarked on an adventure to learn what tastes great and what was good for her family. Moreno started this adventure when she found that her daughter Sophia had a gluten allergy. Moreno also had two other children that experience tummy issues and did not know for sure if they had a gluten allergy as well. With not wanting to make two meals for her family every night that were just okay. So Moreno decided that she wanted to make a really great meal that the whole family would enjoy.
While Moreno was learning to make food and desserts that were gluten free. Friends and family could hardly believe that she could make a Red Velvet cupcake that was gluten free. She started to sell them out of her home to friends. As well at the local farmers market, which she soon became the number one seller at the market. The demand was over exceeding the supply for this stay at home mom working out of her house. So Moreno with her family looked for a year and almost never got her current location, that she just loved. While she does not have plans for an expansion or opening more location, one this is for sure Moreno has a hidden Jewel that is delicious. That you will know is true, once you taste the food that make her customers keep coming back two years strong.
With me living in Arizona this hidden Jewel is going to become one of my favorite spots to go to. Weather it is to have a cup of Hot Cocoa, Chicken and Waffles or one of their fabulous desserts that will put a smile on anyone’s face.
